North York Harvest Food Drive to Spring Into Action!
With spring right around the corner, North York Harvest Food Bank is renewing its commitment to provide families in northern Toronto with ‘food for today and hope for tomorrow’.
The Spring Food Drive helps to stock our shelves for the spring and summer seasons until the next food drive, nearly half a year from now. “There is an alarming rise of unstable jobs in the city and many people are being forced to make a choice between paying rent and buying food. As a result, we have seen a staggering 19% increase in food bank use across our network since last year.” explains Anette Chawla, Executive Director of North York Harvest Food Bank.
During these coming months, the demand usually remains high despite the seasonal dip in donations. With a goal of raising 60,000 lbs of food and $60,000 to address this vital and critical need, North York Harvest’s food drive will run until April 8th.
“Nearly half of the people using the food bank have young children. Since many school meal programs close over the summer holidays, let us ensure a nutritious and healthy food supply” says Chawla.
Community members are encouraged to donate healthy options, including canned fish, dried beans, cooking oils, and whole grains. For more details, please visit: www.northyorkharvest.com/donate-food.
It’s time to spring into action and ensure northern Toronto communities have access to nourishing food!
