Types of Food Programs

Our agencies support a variety of programs that are broadly categorized as follows:

Emergency Hamper Programs

These programs offer 'conventional' food bank services. Service users leave with a three-day supply of staple food items for themselves and other members in their households.

Supplementary Programs

Supplementary programs differ from emergency programs in that they are designed for specific groups such as particular housing or ethnic communities.

Perinatal Programs

These programs provide groceries to participants in prenatal and early parenting nutrition and support programs. Perinatal programs seek to reduce low birth weight babies and to foster health eating and lifestyles.

Meal/Snack Programs

Meal and snack programs provide either full meals or snacks in a range of community settings.

Home Delivery Hamper Programs

Home delivery hamper programs provide delivery services to individuals who are unable to personally access their local food bank.

Community Kitchen Programs

Community kitchens bring groups of people together to collectively prepare meals. Sometimes participants dine together and other times they cook in large quantities to take home meals to their families.
