Meet Julia

Julia Understands What It’s Like.

Quickly running out of options, she reluctantly came to North York Harvest

Julia readily admits that coming to the food bank for the first time wasn’t easy. “I was ashamed that I had to ask for food,” she admit. “It was a real struggle for me.”

As difficult as it was making that first visit to a food space, Julia had no where else to turn. She needed to give her children healthy meals.

“I was out of work,” says Julia. “As a single parent, any gap in employment greatly impacts me and my children.”

During her first visit, Julia received much more than food. She was greeted by staff who not only gave her what she needed, she was also given hope. Julia  left with a new sense of belonging and community, a connection to a better life ahead.

In fact, Julia was so inspired by the team, she decided to join the volunteer program and help contribute to the community spirit.

There are many stories like Julia’s in our community. Your neighbours—seniors and children—need our help. And because of you, we’re able to be there when they need us.

Thank you for making everything we do possible!
