  1. Letter to the City of Toronto Budget Committee

Monday, February 11, 2019 – Ryan Noble, Executive Director of North York Harvest Food Bank, submitted a letter to the City of Toronto Budget Committee, which was read aloud to committee members at their North York meeting.

In what can only be called an emergency, Noble’s letter conveys the dire state of poverty in the City of Toronto. 1 in 4 Torontonians are living in poverty and there have been nearly 1,000,000 food bank visits each year in the city. Furthermore, food bank usage rose by almost 50% in the inner suburbs since 2008.

“We cannot continue to relegate poverty to the side lines,” writes Noble. “We at North York Harvest have a plan. What we need is investment. Only then will we see outcomes, progress and success. And we are standing by, ready to support the process with ongoing research and input from the front line.”

  3. Community Partner Spotlight: The Mulholland|Ross Group

Neighbours taking care of each other – that simple, but powerful idea is what fuels all of our work at North York Harvest.  And the team at Mulholland|Ross Group is the perfect example of that sentiment.

For close to a decade, Ora Ross and Peter Mulholland and their team have shown their commitment to building a healthier northern Toronto through their support of our work. From food drives to community skate days, they’ve made sure our most vulnerable neighbours have the food they need when times get tough.

And now they are taking their support to the next level. This year, to celebrate their 100th home sale, they are donating $20,000 to a group of charities near and dear to their hearts, including North York Harvest! They are asking community members to decide how to distribute their $20,000 donation by voting for their charity of choice here. The charity with the most votes will receive a $10,000 gift.

Their #100HomesToHelp Campaign shows what we’ve known all along – The Mulholland|Ross Group is dedicated to building healthy neighbourhoods, where everyone has what they need to thrive. We’re so honoured to be part of their campaign and for their incredible long-time support.
