LOCATION: North York Harvest warehouse, 116 Industry Street, Toronto, ON M6M 4L8

TORONTO, ON – It’s a day full of heroes at North York Harvest Food Bank! We will be sorting food all day with families, friends, superheroes and local heroes, all in support of our work providing food assistance for thousands of people in our community.

“We tend to see fewer donations during the summer, so a successful Spring Food Drive is crucial in meeting the food needs of our community,” says Ryan Noble, Executive Director, North York Harvest Food Bank, “Donations ensure that we are able to provide nutritious food for our neighbours struggling to put enough food on the table.”

In the morning sort session (10am-12pm) we have local heroes from the York Lions Club, the sponsor of the 2017 Spring Food Drive. “With rent, food and utilities costs rising, the average family within our community is feeling pressured between paying the bills or paying for food,” says Mike Stacey, Treasurer, York Lions Club, “We have chosen to give back and serve our community by supporting the work of North York Harvest Food Bank.”

The Honourable Ahmed Hussen (Member of Parliament York-South Weston) will be kicking off the event by speaking to the public.

The afternoon sorting session (1pm-3pm) will be featuring superhero friends such as Wonder Woman, Batman, Superman and more! Together we will all fight our greatest foe – hunger.

“I have always been in awe of the reactions we get while in costume, and so I have focused on harnessing that attention towards a myriad of causes over the years,” says Northern Belle Rogue (Wonder Woman). “I cannot wait for the Food Sort and our Northern Panic Cosplay Clean Up & Food Drive on April 22nd which will also support NYHFB.”

North York Harvest Food Bank is reaching out to its community to raise 100,000 lbs of healthy food and $100,000 during its annual Spring Food Drive. The drive runs from March 6 to April 30, with all food and funds distributed to its 47 member agencies serving 15,000 people each month.

North York Harvest Food Bank is asking its neighbours, local businesses, schools, and community members to donate nutritious non-perishables such as fish, dried beans, canned tomatoes, cooking oils, and rice. Financial donations allow us to purchase and distribute this food to its 47 member agencies.

Fill More than an Empty Plate: The Hain Celestial Team joins the North York Harvest Food Bank for their Annual Spring Food Drive

Community Urged to Donate Food and Funds in Support of Northern Toronto Children and Families in the Area

March 13, 2015 – TORONTO, ON – We are excited to announce the start of the North York Harvest Food Bank’s annual Spring Food Drive, which runs from March 2, 2015 – April 10, 2015. Proudly sponsored by Hain Celestial Canada, the food drive aims to collect at least 100,000 lbs of healthy food and $100,000 to deliver to children and families in northern Toronto.

“As a member of the North York community, Hain Celestial Canada is proud to partner with North York Harvest Food Bank to bring healthy food to those in need,” said Beena Goldberg, President of Hain Celestial Canada. “In addition to annual food and monetary donations, the Hain Celestial team sponsor the Spring Food Drive, ensuring our neighbours have some extra help this spring and summer season.”

With record lows this winter, food issues have been on peoples mind but as temperatures rise we can’t forget that the need for food does not go away. Over the next few months our warehouse typically reaches record lows in food supplies and we struggle meeting the needs for food from our clients.

In Toronto, where up to 70 per cent of one’s household income can go towards paying rent, many families find they have little money left to spend on food.

“This Spring help us Fill More than an Empty Plate by donating food and funds to North York Harvest Food Bank, assuring that we can stock up for the summer months ahead when shelves are at their emptiest,” said Ryan Noble , Executive Director at North York Harvest. “Together we can share the joy of a healthy meal and make sure families have enough food all summer long.”

This year, North York Harvest Food Bank and Hain Celestial Canada are reaching out to the community to donate nutritious non-perishables, such as canned meat and fish, dried beans, cooking oils and whole grains. Additionally, the money raised will support pick up and distribution of this food to the 42 member agencies, with more than 13,000 individuals who rely on this food each month.
