North York Harvest Food Bank works to engage our community in meeting the food needs of northern Toronto by providing dignified food assistance, education, focused advocacy, and long-term food solutions to create a community where no one goes hungry.
In 2018 we raised over 2 million pounds of food and over 1.4 million dollars, serving over 24,000 people in our community through 47 member agencies. Together we run 77 food programs including community food spaces, neighbourhood food banks, meal programs, women and youth shelters, after-school programs, prenatal programs, community kitchens, community gardens, and nutritional classes.
We need your support more than ever now. The 2019 Who’s Hungry report has shown us alarming statistics in regards to the state of hunger and poverty in our communities:
- Food bank clients spent 74% of their income on rent and utilities.
- After accounting for non-negotiable expenses such as rent and transportation, the average amount of money North York Harvest clients have left per day to spend on food is $4.80.
- The median monthly income of food bank clients is $806, with 79% of respondents reported receiving social assistance as their primary income source.
Please lend us your generous support by making a donation below so that our community can enjoy this holiday season without hunger!
